Global Shipping:

  • When considering global shipping, several key factors come into play that can significantly affect the overall expenses incurred by businesses and consumers alike. These factors include tariffs, import fees, Value-Added Tax (VAT), and customs fees. Understanding how each of these elements contributes to shipping costs is essential for effective international trade management.

1. Tariffs

  • Tariffs are taxes imposed by governments on imported goods. They are typically calculated as a percentage of the product’s value, which includes the cost of the goods themselves plus any freight and insurance costs associated with shipping. The purpose of tariffs is often to protect domestic industries by making imported products more expensive compared to local alternatives.
  • For example, if a product has a tariff rate of 5% and its value is $1000, the tariff would add an additional $50 to the cost of importing that product. This increase in cost can lead to higher prices for consumers or reduced profit margins for businesses selling imported goods.

2. Import Fees

  • Import fees are additional charges that may be levied when goods enter a country. These fees can vary widely depending on the destination country and the nature of the goods being imported. Import fees may include handling charges, processing fees, or other administrative costs associated with customs clearance.
  • These fees can add significant costs to international shipments. For instance, some countries have specific import regulations that require additional inspections or documentation, leading to further charges that must be accounted for in shipping costs.

3. Value-Added Tax (VAT)

  • Value-Added Tax (VAT) is an indirect tax applied at each stage of production or distribution on goods and services in many countries around the world. When products are imported, VAT is typically charged based on their value at customs clearance.
  • The VAT rate varies from country to country; for example, in the European Union, standard VAT rates can range from 17% to 27%. This means that if an item valued at $1000 is subject to a 20% VAT rate upon importation into an EU country, an additional $200 would be added as VAT.

4. Customs Fees

  • Customs fees encompass various charges related to processing shipments through customs authorities. These may include brokerage fees paid to customs brokers who facilitate the clearance process or specific duties related to certain types of goods.
  • Customs fees can also vary based on factors such as shipment size, type of product being shipped, and whether any special handling is required due to regulatory compliance issues.

Shipping Fee estimates for pre-orders:

  • Shipping fees for pre-ordered items are estimates not the actual amount you will be charged for shipping. The exact product weight or product dimensions are not always known at the time we list a product for pre-order. If you are pre-ordering a single item an estimated shipping fee is displayed. If you are pre-ordering more than one item, the base fee and the price per pound that is charged for each shipment is shown. We cannot be certain which items will arrive together so a more accurate shipping estimate cannot be given. We recommend using the Pile of Loot to ship items together and save money on shipping.

Delivery Estimates

  • Delivery times may vary depending on the shipping method selected. Each shipping method will display a delivery date or date range of when a shipment can be expected for delivery.
  • If you are purchasing a pre-order, the number of business days expected for delivery after the item has arrived will be displayed.
  • Under normal circumstances the stated delivery day/range is accurate 99% of the time. There will be a small portion of shipments that take longer. If your delivery has not arrived, we suggest you check the tracking to get a package update. Please be advised that some addresses may consistently take longer than the stated delivery dates. Deliveries may also take longer if you live in an area that is experiencing an unexpected service delay, such as severe weather, natural disasters, unscheduled events, etc.
